Sound Level Variance Permit
Overview

For special events, a sound level variance permit is sometimes needed. From the hours of 7 am - 10 pm the sound level cannot exceed 65 decibels at 100 feet from the sound's source, which is comparable to sound in a business office. From the hours of 10 pm - 7 am, the sound level cannot exceed 55 decibels at 100 feet, which is comparable to conversational speech.

A sound level variance permit can temporarily increase the legal sound limitations. If you think your event may need a sound level variance, contact DSI at least 60 days prior to the date of the event.

Fees

The fee per event for a Sound Level Variance Permit is $164.00.


Expiration/Renewal

A Sound Level Variance Permit is valid only during the date(s) of the specific event.
