1. Where can I find the application?

Applications can be completed and submitted online at http://www.stpaul.gov/jobs

2. How old do I have to be to apply to the YJC program?

You must be between the ages of 14 – 24 to apply. Youth who are thirteen may also apply if they will turn fourteen by June 18, 2012.

3. Do I have to live in Saint Paul?

Yes, all applicants must be residents of Saint Paul.

4. Where will I work?

You will have the opportunity to conduct a job search and interview for the position that interests you the most. The Youth Job Corps program hosts a career expo day and also provides a search able online job bank.

The positions include jobs at recreation centers, libraries, swimming pools, outdoor landscaping, gardening, and construction. There are also a wide variety of other opportunities throughout the City of Saint Paul.

5. Can I work if I have a disability?

Yes. The City of Saint Paul is an Equal Employment Opportunity Employer.

6. Will I have a job after I submit my application?

Applying to the YJC program does not guarantee you employment.

7. When will the application be available?

The Youth Job Corps application is available in early March of each year. Applications can be found at http://www.stpaul.gov/jobs

8. Can I be fired?

Yes, you can be released from your work assignment.

9. Can I work if I attend Summer School?

Yes. However, opportunities may not be available to you until after summer school has ended.

10. How long will my employment last?

Most jobs begin June 18, 2012 and end August 24, 2012.

11. What will happen if I quit?

If you choose to quit your work assignment, you will be paid your wages up to that day on the following pay day. It is expected that a reason for quitting will be communicated to the supervisor.
