[ARCHIVED] City Accepts Donation Check for Payne Maryland Project

(SAINT PAUL) –City of Saint Paul Mayor Chris Coleman, along with Councilmember Dan Bostrom and Parks and Recreation Department Director Mike Hahm, accepted a $30,000 donation from the Minnesota Beverage Association and the American Beverage Foundation for a Healthy America to help construct the Payne Maryland facility’s indoor walking track.

“The Payne Maryland facility is an important asset for Saint Paul, and we are thrilled to receive this generous donation to help strengthen the building and its programming,” Mayor Chris Coleman said. “Once completed, Payne Maryland will bring together people from across the community, creating not just a learning center but giving neighborhood residents access to a new year-round fitness facility. We are truly grateful for the Minnesota Beverage Association’s generous donation towards making this new walking track a reality.”

The walking track will be on the main level of the Payne Maryland building, above the lower-level gymnasium floor. The track will feature a rubber flooring surface and windows next to the track will provide outside views as well as views of the adjacent fitness center. The track will be two lanes wide (6 ft.) and the entire length of the track is 276 feet (19 laps per mile).

“The Minnesota Beverage Association has a long history of supporting health and wellness programs across the state, especially programs which help combat childhood obesity. When we heard about this donation opportunity our grant committee recognized it immediately as a natural fit and we are very proud to be able to donate towards this new permanent asset to the community,” Minnesota Beverage Association President Tim Wilkin said.

The Payne Maryland Project will bring together public and private partners under one roof. The facility will encapsulate the programming needs of the Arlington Recreation Center, the Arlington Hills Library, Arlington Hills Lutheran Church, and Bradshaw Celebration of Life Centers into a new and exciting community center. Construction is scheduled to be completed in January of 2014.
